10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land. – Jonah 2:10
The fish worked at the command of God. Just as much as the fish was under the command of God when it swallowed Jonah, it was under His command when it let him go. If God can speak to a fish, He can speak to us. Then again, fish probably don’t resist the will of God like we do.
And while the escape from the fish was not preferred, look at where the fish let him off. The text says “dry land.” This was an incredible escape. Miraculous to say the least. It is commonly thought that Jonah was vomited out on the shores of Nineveh – but we are not told that this was the case, especially because Nineveh is about 375 miles from the Mediterranean Sea. If Jonah did walk into Nineveh right from the belly of the fish, it would have been a miraculous projection of the fish’s vomit. And Did you know there are old Nineveh legends speaking of the man who was born of a fish? Nineveh was so wicked, a man walking into their city probably would not have made much of a difference. But, a man delivered from a fish? That is going to make headline news. God’s plan for Jonah was orchestrated to perfection. Jonah’s process of disobedience was used as a proving factor of God’s existence to the city of Nineveh.
God will use your journey to show other’s how real he is. Your step is to tell your story. Your story may be shameful to you. I am sure Jonah’s was. Your story may be something that you believe others cannot relate to. Well, do you believe anyone could relate to being eaten by a fish and vomited on the shore? If you can relate to that, I would love to grab coffee sometime to hear that story! The truth is that God will use our story in the same miraculous way he used the fish. Don’t be afraid to let God write a story that makes no sense or is scary. Trust that He will deliver you the same way he delivered Jonah.
