WHAT ARE WORSHIP SERVICES LIKE?
- We look at the Life of the Congregation (announcements, prayer concerns, upcoming events)
- We sing and listen to uplifting music
- We pray with God
- We Pass the Peace – a time to shake hands and welcome each other to fellowship
- We listen to Scripture readings, have a time for the children, and learn more about God’s teachings through the sermon
- We share our gifts of money for the furthering of God’s work
- We take communion to get close to God
MUST I “DRESS-UP” TO ATTEND WORSHIP?
No, it is not required or even expected. Many do wear their best to meet God, but we welcome and accept everyone, and their slacks, jeans, or sneakers!
WHO GOES TO YOUR CHURCH?
We have people from many walks of life – young, old, male, female, those who live in town or from the country. Many are long-time members, others are newly started or visiting. We have folks who are Christians from other churches, folks who have grown up as a Disciple and some that are not-yet-Christians. A mix of folks who are married, single, divorced, widowed, newlywed, professionals, workers, retired, babies, teenagers, young adults, and seniors. A mix of all!!
WHO ARE THE DISCIPLES OF CHRIST?
We belong to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a denomination of almost 1 million members. Communion is a central part of our worship services. We practice believer baptism by full immersion but accept into membership all baptized Christians, regardless of method. We give members freedom to think for themselves and to get involved; we believe in working with other Christians; we make our own decisions – about money, ministers, programs and about following Christ.
CAN I TAKE COMMUNION AND PRAY “THE LORD’S PRAYER”?
The Lord’s Prayer is said during worship for all to participate. Communion is open to all, no matter what your background, attendance, or membership.
When communion is passed we hold the bread and eat in unison and likewise do the same with the cup.
